Uncle Fred is in charge of the sleigh, the reindeer harness, and the care of the reindeer. He and Rudolph are best buddies.
Melvin says that when Santa and the reindeer team head out into bad weather, Uncle Fred paces the floor until Rudolph guides Santa back to the Toy Shop.
Uncle Fred has a fine collection of tools and takes every effort to care for them. Those tools are his pride and joy. And, he is so very good at keeping the sleigh in tip-top shape.
Uncle Fred tells Santa that the reindeer are his "children". His devotion to Rudolph and the team is easy to see. I think he finds extra carrots as a treat for the reindeer.
